Conventional

Tait Radio Communications offers a range of conventional radio systems tailored to meet a wide variety of customers' needs. Forming the core of these solutions is a robust group of well proven products which include base stations/repeaters, mobiles and portable terminals.

With over 40 years experience designing and supplying conventional solutions into public transport applications Tait can provide everything from an all-informed, open channel system to a closed dispatch controlled network. The coverage can be from as small as a depot area up to a whole nationwide network.

Conventional radio can be used to support broadcast, group or individual voice calls as well as a number of data transfer formats. Tait offer over the air data rates from 1.2kb/s to 12kb/s within a 12.5 kHz channel format.

Conventional radio systems come in a variety of formats which include:

  • Direct terminal-to-terminal communications

Direct terminal-to-terminal operation is normally used where the required coverage is limited. This may be used for in-depot services such as vehicle marshalling or local incident management. This is the most basic form of mobile radio and is often overlooked until major incidents or natural disasters occur. Vehicle-mounted terminals can have a range of many miles when used in this format. At this level both voice and data messages can be supported.

  • Base station/repeater based communications

When greater range is required, base stations or repeaters are located at appropriate high spots and controlled either directly from terminals or by control circuits (backhaul) from a dispatch center. Networks can be built up by using a number of base stations to cover a wide area. Tait can provide a range of dispatch center equipment including control equipment, consoles and recorders.

  • QS² Simulcast networks

In some applications it is not practical to use a number of channels to cover a wide area where low user terminal numbers are expected. In this case it is worth considering using a TaitNet QS² Simulcast solution. This both offers high quality communications to large area with only one radio channel being used.

Applications that can be supported on TaitNet conventional; solutions that will benefit transport operators include:

  • Voice calls to individuals, groups and fleet wide broadcast
  • Data messages to and from vehicles permitting AVLC applications
  • Wide area solutions such a QS² Simulcast
  • Single vehicle unit or multiple terminal configurations

Tait also offer services that can optimize the both the delivered solution and the ongoing performance of the system. These services include:

  • Early requirements capture and beta design creation
  • Solution design for a maximum KPI return
  • Coverage predictions and site selection
  • System installation and commissioning
  • Management and performance monitoring
  • Enhancement and technology tracking audits

Tait aims to be your preferred conventional partner. The core elements of a Tait analogue conventional solution are the TP8100 and TM8000 range of portables and mobiles plus the TB8100 base station/repeater. Also specific conventional solutions are contained within the TaitNet portfolio.
